My "re-engineering" project is coming along nicely. My next door neighbor has a Coca-Cola swing made from a tubular steel frame. The part you sit/lean on is canvas that has long since rotted out from exposure to the sun and rain and kids climbing on it. It's been sitting in their yard in ruins for months and I've been looking at it speculatively. The other day, I said, "I can fix that, you know." You'd have thought I said that I could make them live forever. Ha!
So, I dissembled the swing and used the remains of the canvas as the pattern to make another canvas seat and back. I'm re-engineering it so that it has strengthening canvas strips on the bottom and back. It will still get destroyed eventually but will do so at a much slower rate than the original "made in China" one did. The original swing cost her over $150. My re-fit is $20 in materials and 1 day's labor. Nice, eh? That's my Christmas present to them. :grinning:
