Well as a kitten my cat never was allowed out the first six months i had her till she was old enough to be doctored so she couldnt have kittens of her own. Since when apart from doing her business in the back yard and sleeping out in the yard on a hot day, she doesnt go any further than the yard which is a good thing anyway because as you say its not really safe for them. and especially at night here where i am on the edge of town there are fox's about. so its definately not safe.
