Polish X-mas eve (there may be some mistakes and you may not understand it)
In Poland usually this habit became different and uniqe. It is strictly connected with Poland and so deeply lapsed in heart of every Polish that X-mas eve has nearly mythical meaning for him. Wigilia is written in polish tradition as evening full of reveries and reflections, truth close-up and mutual forgiving faults. In polish history there were also terrifying, hurtful and full of trepidation, but always during this day people were kind for each other. They were meeting and waited for a first star to start a X-mas eve's supper. Always we were breaking the wafer, we had to have a christmas tree and corrals were always sang.

Main part of Christmas was and is Wigilia. We start it with breaking the wafer and wishing to each other luck, health and peace. In the past wafers were colourful, beatifully decorated, nowadays these are mostly white.

Since ever we do not eat dishes that consists of meal (except are fishes). It comes from old polish traditions. Old words that were used to name Wigilia are: postnik, pośnik, Pańska wieczerza, kolęda. Nowadays we call it wigilia (from latina: vigiliave).

Another traditions says about even amount of people who are eating x-mas dishes. Odd amount of people foretells badluck.

We use to leave one place left for Jesus. One of old polish traditions, that are needed to be resssurected and kept, was inviting lonely people for X-mas eve.

In the past Wigilia in wealthy houses consisted of 12 dishes, in the village from 7.

One of the youngest traditions connected with X-mas eve is having a christmas tree. Despite the fact it is young tradition, nowadays we can not imagine Christmas without it..

Sining carrols is a beatiful tradition. Carrols surrounded Polish everywhere for ages. Carrols were sang and are sang by all Polish. Carrols are also alive statue of old centuries that connects us with them, pleasing us of it's simplicity and it's characteristic humour, it is also an manifestation of magnanimous and good feelings. Carrols are gladly sang in Church and at home.

By the end of X-mas eve we use to sing them and then we go with all family for shepherdess.

Modern X-mas eve is not so wealthy like it used to be, but we always try to keep traditions alive.
