Since 2007, I believe. And I've been very much comfortable with it since, from its early days while using XP, to the move over to Windows 7.

its sometimes annoying when the box pops up for permission to use this and that, but i can manage

especially since my desktop came with it pre-installed and i had to put up with it for almost 8 years

Better avoid using financial transactions on Windows XP: most (both fixed and non(yet)fixed security holes are known by experienced criminals by now. Rule of thumb: newer is safer
