Called "Goa Trance" because on the beach in Goa, there is a place called Anjuna Beach. They have massive dance parties there. The goa/acid trance sound was popular there in the mid-late 90's and early 2000's. That's where the sound was born.

And yes... Above & Beyond's label "Anjuabeats" is a play on Anjuna Beach.

Goa Trance is for me one of those genres that got me into EDM back in mid-90s :) and I still listen those sounds almost every day :)

Haha - you know... it was the same for me. I bought this goa trance album called "Travelling" (it had a red cover), and the first time I heard a track by Man with No Name, I was hooked. From there I discovered Astral Projection and Juno Reactor, and it just kept going from there....

Oh yeah those are the legends :), love them. My first goa trance cd was compilation called Goa Inside vol 1. Not sure if it was ever released outside Finland but I fell instantly in love with the dreamy and other worldly soundscapes it offered :)
