Don't use ' u '. U is a deceit : it's sneakily deceptive. Sounds almost like ' you ' eh ? :ee: It's utterly formal. Dutch people use it to officials, in formal situations. Between friends it's utterly ' correct ' and no fun. Forget ' u ' , unless you're addressed by a policeman, for instance :cap:​

I've just heard a Tone Diary show of MArcus Schossow and he says "there has been a rumour about these 2 guys that they're gay and living together and that is complete bullshit! they are living together as friends not as a couple! LOL Marcus Schossow is such a bad ass

There's the alternative. The informal and common used way of addressing is ' je ' and ' jij ' .
