well im from Canada, when somebody says good night to you it means he's leaving. So we would only say ''hi how are you'' something simple like that ;)

oh lol - seems like when you mention the actual time of the day ( which is way different from West Coast of Canada and West Coast of Europe )

In most context i see them used around here, Good evening would used more as a greeting then good night. in USA (and maybe Canada i dont know :dontknow:) usually when someone says good night it is taken as a farewell
