there are plenty of ways of doing it. This one i played today was one of the more simple ones. Vast Vision sent me the acapella of 'Everything' and I tried to find an appropriate track that matches in terms of key and tempo, which in this case was the Daniel Kandi remix of 'Trapeze'. I use ableton for my mashups. I've simply added reverbs & delays to the acapella, played with the hi freq and low freq until i got it to sound smooth, the last part is the syncing. Rather basic

That is what I wondered actually, do you have to ask for the seperate files, i.e- the accapella from the prodcucers, i.e- vast vision, or is this common practise, they just send out all the files with the complete song to mates and DJ's for promos? I guess you have to be pretty well known to get these priviledges?

it really depends, some acapella's do float around on the web, for some you need to ask the producer directly. Some tracks have silent parts usually at the start of the break with 2 or 3 pad layers and vocals, those parts of the tracks can be used for/as acapella mash ups as well, since if done properly, will sound as smooth as with an acapella. Practicing is essential.
