in some vbr tunes, as named the ''broken kicks'' occur due to change in kbps and that leads to mini seconds of delays between each kick and it is not something easy to control with hardware

so far i've never noticed that, i use vbr a lot (also with hardware) and it doesn't make any difference at all. as far as i know and can tell it's just a common misconception that vbr has an influence on beatmatching. vbr only means that the bitrate is variable, not the time domain - nothing changes in the time domain at all :grinning:
