irregular behaviour: my 1st focus would be checking (all) running processes, tasks, services : check the CPU usage for each and every process, task, service, program.

Else: roll-back a backup

Sounds like it's purely a firefox issue and not network layer so check your addons?! Clear the caches etc or just re-install the browser itself
