You're right. My cats could care less about the Recession. God created them with more sense than he did us. It wasn't pets or animals who created the mess that we are in. It was PEOPLE who did that. Pets are just as much victimized by their greed as I am. They are victimized precisely BECAUSE I am.
I am one of those unemployed. I live on unemployment and student loans. I lost my job to the Recession in December 2008. After vigorously searching for a job for 6 months, I gave up and went back to school to finish my degree. I'm over 50 years of age. It is EXTREMELY difficult for people my age to get re-employed. I did the next best thing to improve my chances and went back to school.
It's been very difficult. My major is Computer Science with a minor in Math. I'm living on less than half of what I used to when I had my beloved job. But in spite of that, I manage to live well. I make my house payments and pay my bills, I feed my pets and take care of my home. I even go to as many Trance shows and events as I possibly can. Trance saved my life.
So, I think I can safely say that I know what I'm talking about. No matter what financial situation one finds themselves in, there is no need to take it out on the pets. Even homeless people have pets. I know that for a fact, because I was homeless myself for 5 months in 1998-1999 and lived in a homeless wino camp. Half the people there had pets. They have dogs. Dogs are the most useful and important of all our domesticated animals.
Hmmm. I think I'll stop now. I've made my point. (hugs)
