This happens all too often now days I find, take me for instance, most people want to hear the exact same 138 tune from me everytime, if I do something different people moan. But I'll always make different music because without that music becomes boring.

And right you are. Keep true to yourself. Plus I learned from musician's too: go your own way gives most satisfaction yourself plus the respect of other professionals ;-)
