New Zealand dairy company Fonterra released its Chesdale-brand chocolate-flavored cheese slices in Taiwan in 2005 to encourage customers to eat more cheese. Six months later the company had grabbed an amazing 10% of Taiwan's cheese market. Fonterra then launched the product in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand, ultimately inspiring imitations such as the one shown here, from China. The cheese appeals to parents who want to feed their children protein- and calcium-rich foods low in sugar.
