Same here ... was watching some Eurovision with a couple of people. They spoke of actors, tv shows, etc. I have never even heard.

Am I ignorant - or just using my time different?

Quit watching TV (some chosen radio news broadcastings instead) years ago. Saves a lot of time: living my life myself, not 'mind & senses occupied' by TV anymore
