I have absolutely nothing against early 2000 classics, but to me the late 90's classics just have a special sound that's distinguishable. The bassline was never the main point in these tracks, only another element that added to the melody.

While I do enjoy the more balanced nature of the 90s tracks, sometimes I put one on and the weaker bassline leaves me wanting.

The way I see it. 90's tracks were more about the vibe and actually putting you in a state of trance. Early 2000's started to focus more on the club aspect, where the bassline needed to be up front. Now, we have over compressed basslines and you can barely hear the melody in some of the tracks in a club. More melodies, less bassline wins in my book. I just want a nice groovy/driving bassline, not over the top
