pjIRC?

Im a little new to this sort of thing, i do have mIRC but idk if that will help. What I want to do is access the chatroom server from a seperate client instead of just going through all the stuff of going to the site and stuff? Is pjIRC need a different client or can i configure mIRC to work?

server: irc.mixxnet.net
channel: #afterhours

/server irc.mixxnet.net
once connected type in /join #afterhours
