I think most people, no matter how much of a big trance fan they are, listen to a whole lot of other stuff too. It certainly doesn't let trance down.
I actually find that I can get inspiration from some rock or pop tracks when I'm planning on making new tunes.

True, besides trance and other genres of EDM I also listen to stuff like The National, Marina and the Diamonds, Linkin Park, Green Day and many other. It surely doesn't mean I'm letting trance down at all.
