Starting Production Equipment

Hey guys, i have decided to start going down the production route and recently bought a new PC and monitor. I already have a M-Audio KeyRig 49 keyboard. I am still using my desktop computer speakers and need to invest in some monitors, sorry to sound dumb but when i have bought my monitors im guessing i also need to buy an audio interface to connect it up to the PC? Is there anything else i need to be getting straight away like a usb controller. Something cheap to start like a Korg Nanopad or Novation Nocturn?

Yeah I would go for a decent audio interface with low latency. For example the NI Audio Kontrol 1 NATIVE INSTRUMENTS : HOME | HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE FOR MUSICIANS, PRODUCERS, DJS, GUITAR AND BASS PLAYERS
