It good be that we call that 'last day' of the year 'oudejaarsdag' which means .. hold on..:tjon:....<= sorry about that interruption....which means 'old years day'. So the evening that of that day is therefor 'old years eve'. Does that make sense?

Thx, yes I stupidly forgot about eve & evening being associated. I thought of eve as whole day. I think both 31 December & 1 January should be holidays.
