You're missing the point I was trying to make, Windows applies interpolation to the images when it resizes them, so putting in an image of 1600x1200 and changing your resolution to anything within the same aspect ratio (providing it's lower) such as 1400 x 1050, 1280 x 960, 1024x768... will look identical...

I'm presuming Linux / Mac works in the same way and would be really surprised if it doesn't use interpolation algorithms when resizing the image.

The point I was making about upsizing too was that unless the original source image is larger or the same size as the image you are resizing too, there is no point in creating a copy for every size as the operating system would stretch it in exactly the same way anyway.

Looking back at the original image I see that it is 1600x1200, so that means it will look fine at 1400 x 1050, 1280 x 960, 1024x768.
