Trance hit the mainstream in one knockout punch with Robert Miles’ ‘Children’, taking the then unknown producer straight to the top of the pop charts in 12 countries upon its release in 1995.
The story behind why Robert Miles created ‘Children’ is an endearing one - after seeing his father’s photographs of child war victims that he had brought home from a humanitarian mission in the former Yugoslavia, Miles was moved to create the emotional record, with its famous piano lead.
There are rumours that Miles also created the track to end DJ sets, intended to calm rave attendants before they drove home as a means to reduce car accidents.
Whatever his reasons are for creating it, ‘Children’ remains one of the greatest trance records ever made.
