Hi mate, I used 2xTechnics 1210Mk2's and one Pioneer CDJ800Mk2 as decks, along with a Pioneer DJM600 mixer. On average I like my transitions to be 2 minutes long but it depends on how long an intro and outro the producer gives you really so they can vary - the secret really is to find out tunes that go well into each other :smile1:

Before I crossfade though I'm always cueing up in the headphones and doing my beatmatching, but I think mixing at the right time is much more important for the flow of a set anyway, and tune selection even more so. However, I'd say DJing is 90% practice though so the theory's not really important just so long as you get lots of that

How do you think Armin makes his shows? With real turntables, Ableton live or with 'not-dj-but-knock-together' software?

Good point mate! by the way I think that comes under practice though, I don't really know anything about mixing in key on a scientific level to be honest Rich tells me one of the notes in Life Goes On is "wrong" though I don't hear it myself

Armin uses ableton live to do his ASoT Radio shows, podcasts and ASoT yearmixes, (probably all his DJ mixes to be fair) tis a cracking bit of kit

I'm sure he makes them on Ableton mate, but if I remember he says that it's because generally he could be anywhere in the world on any day so he can't really cart his record bags and stuff everywhere with him, and he does have a point, to be fair. Armin's a well documented vinyl-lover though so he'll always be ok in my book
