VERY IMPORTANT NEWS FOR THE PEOPLE COMING FROM UTRECHT AND AMSTERDAM!

There will be NO TRAINS in the weekend of 9/10 April. There is a major construction planned between Utrecht and Den Bosch. According to the Dutch railroads, you will have to take the bus between Utrecht and Geldermalsen (village between Utrecht and Den Bosch). From there, you can take the train to Den Bosch. It will cost you an extra hour to get from Utrecht to Den Bosch, which means about 1 hour and 30 minutes!

THIS HAS ME EXTREMELY WORRIED!!! I arrive in Amsterdam on April the 9th early in the morning. Originally I was going to purchase train tickets ahead of time but since I'm not associated with any* Dutch* banks I could not pre-order any from the internet.

My next option was to just blindly go to the Netherlands and hope to purchase a ticket from a machine upon arrival, but now I'm screwed.

There is a coach service provided however that whole website is in Dutch (understandable) and my guess would be they have the exact same payment restrictions as the the train service which would mean a Canadian can't buy coach tickets either, so am I walking to Den Bosch?

I'm starting to think planning a trip to Europe just cause I like trance was a horrible mistake, as I may never get to attend A state of trance by the looks of things, unless of course I hitchhike......Yeah I've seen hostel too.

If anyone has any form of solution other than not going & killing myself then please feel free to help me out. I've already spent a great deal of money on this trip and continue to save every dime I earn, I'm offended that the Nederlandse Spoorwegen have compromised it's success.

Well when do you arrive in Schiphol? I could pick you up and help you with the traintickets etc? :) hope it's not before 2pm since I will recover from the pre party in Amsterdam xD

I guess I screwed up my last post. I'll be at Schiphol around 7:45am on Friday April the 8th (I forgot about the day it takes me to fly there).

I have a reservation at the Flying Pig so I can keep my stuff somewhere while I go to Luminosity: Trance Gathering that night, it seemed like a good idea since I was going to be around Amsterdam anyway.

Just like you I'll be recovering from Luminosity, only I'll have no idea where I am or where to go, and while I'm sure everyone speaks English I can't imagine single tourists being treated very well. All I have is my ASOT ticket and the determination to get there. Do I have to pay one of the Arabian taxi drivers from Centraal station to bring me to Den Bosch? Is there a particular way to hitch hike in the Netherlands? Like is it a thumbs down instead, or do I need to be on a certain side of the road?

Ehhh Dutch taxi's aren't the cheapest ones... just take the train or NS bus to go from Amsterdam to Den Bosch, It will take longer but you will get there :)

OTHER OPTION

NS websites tells te following:
Take train towards Amsterdam Schiphol and get out in The Hague/Den Haag... from there take train to Rotterdam and change trains again in Breda to finally reach Den Bosch. Takes 2 hours and 31 minutes.

I believe this is quicker as the bus option between Utrecht and Den Bosch, cause bustransfers are always fucked up her in NL :(

I'm turning the trance louder and louder hoping to numb my thoughts but this whole trip is now seriously screwing with my pessimistic side.

I gave the eventtravel.nl website another try, apparently you have to register to that one with a name, address, postal code & so on before you can even select a ticket. That was just the first of the seven step process, if I managed to make up a name my hopes would be lost somewhere during the "Betalen" step cause my methode is NorthAmericaan!!!!!!!

Part of me wants to give up, part of me wants to just do nothing and sulk. But a majority of me already payed an enormous fee for 6 connecting flights to get me in and out of this mess, I must go.

While the idea of train hoping sounds promising, (well 2.5 hours is better then a 21 hour bike ride) you got to to walk a kilometer in these clogs for a second, I've never been on a train before yet alone multiple ones, so "Heading Schiphol, Rotterdam, Hague, then back through Breda" sounds more like an exotic salad to me at the moment. I can't stress enough how much this has shit on my day, even Kandi is having trouble picking me back up.

What do I need to do to arrive in Den Bosch by 5:00pm? And what do I do when that fails? (Because it probably will)

Scandalous! Can see it will take 2,5 hours from Amsterdam. But Sunday morning to get to Schiphol will be hard to be in the train for more than 2 hours. Good I choose the flight at 12:30. Bah.... Need some beers now :beer::beer:

hawkeye thank you for such important information, much appreciated.

Things have a way of solving them self if you take it calm and ask questions. Me are going to stay in Utrecht and I just read about some direct trains from there but I have to go the way over Arnhem-Nijmegen. Cheers everyone! See you there!

There are 3 ways to get to Den Bosch:

Amsterdam - Utrecht - Den Bosch
Amsterdam - Rotterdam - Breda - Den Bosch
Amsterdam - Utrecht - Nijmegen/Arnhem - Den Bosch

So the first one isn't possible. The other 2 routes are. They will both take about an hour extra as well, so it doesn't really matter if you use the bus that the NS provided or take a detour by train.

For the guy freaking out on the last page, if you buy a ticket for the train, just a regular Amsterdam - Den Bosch ticket, you are allowed to use that to get in the bus. So no worries mate. :friends:

You will be fine. Dutch ppl aren't usually rude to tourists. Most of us speak English very well and there's a big chance you will meet many ppl going to ASOT anyways. Esp if you go to Lumi the day before. There's 2 other trains going (Nijmegen and the Hague, which are not salads but decent cities with good publiv transportation) and NS buses. Maybe you can even find someone from ah.fm who's driving to asot from A'dam or another place you can easily get to. What's 2.5 hrs by train if you can be at a great party?

2 yrs ago it took me 6 hrs to get back home from DanceValley and I'm dutch. These things happen, don't let them ru your trip to NL! Pls don't worry and invest your time in getting some good music on your ipod for your trainride to ASOT.
