24-12-2011 EOYC Day 7

????????? :hmmm: Got over 40 HDD's so far : not a single one gave up. One disaster so far only with an SSD: sudden CRC error. Have to reformat the very one :captain:

now are you referring to mechanical or SSD or both, cause I have experienced data corruption numberous tmes, I have never had an SSD hard drive I have had flash drives tho.

are you saying that SSD is more reliable.

:: Dennis Sheperd & Cold Blue feat. Ana Criado – Fallen Angel ::

Into the darkness
Into the fear
Swept away by the past
And ghosts that re-appear

Who will you run to
When you’re feeling down
And who will you turn to
When it’s all gone

Fallen angel
Lost your wings
Can’t find your way back home
Haunted by the painful sting

Dreams of heaven
Have turned to flames of hell
Just when you least expected
Under her spell

Who will you run to
When you’re feeling down
And who will you turn to
When it’s all gone

Fallen angel
Lost your wings
Can’t find your way back home
Haunted by the painful sting

:cap: No, the opposite is true. Indifferent which brand you buy, indifferent which price you pay ( I have MTron, Intel, WD and more ): the old fashioned and slow but proven HDD is more reliable :captain:

Theoretically SSD should be more reliable. Reality is different due to various controller and firmware related issues. Also, an OS that supports TRIM is pretty much a must.

Data corruption on mech drive should be rare provided you're using good quality drives and not bumping the box whilst running. Laptops/Notebooks are particularly vulnerable in this regard.

Goddam, I would love to be able to bring AH to work with me! Just hours and hours of top-notch mixes!

Slower RPM mech drives, e.g. 3200 to 5400 generate less heat, so tend to last longer, but seek time is longer and data transfer of very large files slower. Practically speaking, most times most folks will not notice much difference. However, newer drives also use fluid dynamic bearings, so spinning 7200 is no problem, and I have 10K RPM raptors that I've been running for years.
