Mirrored drives, aka RAID1, is not a back up system. It's redundancy system so that when one drive fails you're not dead in the water and have time to replace on your time w/o loosing any uptime. Still need data backup.

I have used Hitachi and also Seagate, I think I have run into issues, with one of the drives dying in my Mac which was under warranty so they replaced the it for free and told me here is the bad news we have to give you a bigger hdd cause they don't make the 250 GB , so I would have to have a 320GB and I was like how is that bad news, they were like its not. it was funny.

but I was able to back up that data.

yea so likely I would want to have both, maybe 2 mirrors one as the main and the other as the backup.
