I don't know too many people who count the beats.. I only do when I find the tune boring and I'm waiting for the transition into something better..

example: "meh..next track pls......8..7..6..5.4...3..2.1..and yes! finally..transition"

I'm counting all the time when mixing.......:dontknow:

There's a good valid reason for that. Trance is very mathematical. You have to be intelligent to understand and appreciate the patterns, all of which are based on some pretty fancy calculus and trig. All of us smart fookers get it. Them dumb bunnies ... well, they don't.

I'm making trance, so I can say... It's mathematical

Generally speaking, I'm totally with you, but at 3 or 4am, that deep dark hard stuff ... well it just works.

I've gotten OFF on some of those sets. But I'm a big "uplift" fan, myself.

I count them in the back of my head all the time. It gives that hyperactive part of my mind something fun to do. Have you noticed that the patterns are almost always hex based? 16 beats, then a shift. Or certainly octal, 8, 16, (not much 24), 32, (not much 40), 48, (not much 56), and 64. I've rarely counted any patterns past 64. That seems to be the limit. :grinning2:
