BeXta

bexta.jpg

When you look at the list of achievements of Australia’s No1 female dj and possibly the most successful hard dance producer in the countries history, you wonder how she has done it all. And when you ask Bexta that question, this quietly spoken talent admits she feels she hasn’t even started. Which makes it all the more cool.

Bexta has had 8 single releases to date, one of which was a 5 star international anthem (quoted by Radio One, BBC London, and DJ Mag UK), called One for the Road. She’s release one EP – the Skirmish LIVE Ep, which entered the ARIA singles charts in 1999, and an album, Conversations with ones and zeroes. The album reached number 8 on the ARIA independent album charts, which was released on her own label in Australia. Who has ever heard of a hard dance music producer in this country achieving all of that?

In 2000, Bexta began the DJ compilation series, Mixology, and we are about to hit the big TEN, a milestone in the compilations’ history. But right now, BeXta is in the studio producing up some more tunes, including a new 2007 version of One for the Road, which will be out on her Mixology Digital label in June. As well as her own remix, there will be remixes from some internationals, and also local label mate Patrik Carera.

As well as her studio work, BeXta has been working on the Mixology Digital label, securing a kick ass artist line up, and a busy release schedule for the year. She has managed to lock in some of the best producers the country has to offer in the dance arena, and has not limited the music on the label to what she writes or plays, but has everything from prog/electro and house to tech and trance. “style is irrelevant, if the track’s good, I’m gunna go for it”.

DJ tyDi

tydi.jpg

The latest gift from Australia to the global Dance scene is tyDi. Where some people his age are still reflecting upon choosing a career path, tyDi has already paved the way for GenerationNext with his incredible musicality both in the studio and on stage. tyDi's popularity and talent as an emerging Australian DJ/Producer has already been well acknowledged, being voted No.12 nationally in the Inthemix Technics Australian Top 50 DJ poll and No.3 for his home state of Queensland. As a DJ, tyDi's skills and flair for interactive performance are in great demand. He performs regularly at the best clubs and events with his international career established throughout Asia by 19 where his music and charisma eclipsed the language barrier.

As a Producer, tyDi's tracks and remixes can be found internationally on every media; his music features on many different dance / electronic compilations and he recently released a mix compilation for the 'GeneratioNext' label while he was still only a teenager. 2007 will see the release of tyDi's highly anticipated debut solo artist album
'falling on my own' as well as a string of remixes for other international artists.

tyDi's career started at 15 when he won first place in both the “Brisbane DJ Wars" and Queensland's the "Central Station DJ Competition". His name was propelled towards immediate prominence where he began playing at major clubs around the country and was welcomed onboard to PR Agency, "Most Wanted Global". tyDi had developed his
musicianship behind the turntables and in the studio, culminating with his first release onto vinyl. Recognizing the need to formally develop his musical faculties, The Conservatorium of Music acknowledged the potential of tyDi's immense talents by inviting him to study a Bachelor of Music Technology. Balancing his study with live performances, tyDi continued to improve his writing and production skills. With a
distinctive sound fusing orchestral with electronica, tyDi's productions range from rance, to progressive, tech, house, pop and film music. Beyond the dance floor, tyDi's productions and live mixes continue to be played across radio waves throughout Australia and the rest of the world, with recent interest from PlayStation3 and Xbox certain to extend his musicality towards our game consoles.

A performance at Australia's award winning No.1 Nightclub for "Godskitchen" lead to a weekly residency at "Family Nightclub" – though tyDi was barely of the legal age to even be a patron. tyDi's presence at "Family" each Friday night has generated a rising appeal and awareness in Queensland's heretofore deficient Trance arena. Now secure
with a large following appreciative of his interactive and highly charged DJ performances, tyDi has rocked many a dance floor throughout the country. He continues to encourage national and international attention by performing before mass crowds at Big Day Out, Slinky, Summafieldayze, Godskitchen, Sublime@Home, Progress@GAS, Espanda, Adventj*h, Mayhem, and many more major Dance events and clubs– notably in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne, Darwin, Cairns amongst other cities. tyDi also continues to be billed
alongside the world's biggest artists. When most 18 year olds have only just started going clubbing, tyDi had already supported the world's No.1 DJ Paul Van Dyk.

tyDi's first trance track 'Familiar Streets' with guest vocalist Holly Ryan proved a great success, released internationally as a record and on CD single. 'Familiar Streets' appears both in its original form and as a remix on beXta's compilation "Mixology 9". His second single 'Is It Cold' features on the compilation "A Night of Trance – The Anthems", which was released to critical praise. tyDi's highly anticipated self
produced artist album "Falling On My Own" is due for release in September alongside several other singles, a Live DVD and a series of international gigs to commence early 2008. With an exciting and prevailing path ahead, tyDi has an assured vision for his future.

Steve Black

steveblack.jpg

Named "the pin up boy of the Melbourne rave scene", Steve Black is one of the most versatile and credible dj's in Australia.

Never criticizing the adventurous, Steve’s musical style extensively varies through most genres of modern electronic music always keeping the crowd on their toes and wondering what will be next! Whether it be slamming techno over 3 turntables in a warehouse some where, jivin minimal/electro at fetish parties, or playing his brand of techno & tech-trance to thousands in Australia or abroad, Steve Black never disappoints.

Steve Black is to every extent a performer, combining his crazy onstage antics with his solid gold mixing techniques, creating an onslaught like none other, even if he is mixing with his feet!

He is one of the last standing Melbourne pioneers of the tech-trance sound that has taken the world by storm and is the head resident at the award winning techno-trance club "BASS AUSTRALIA".

He is the head lecturer at the most innovative and down right hottest music school in Australia, ASMT (Australian School of Music Technology www.asmt.net.au), is one half of !WARNING! www.myspace.com/warninglive, (one of the country's top live techno/tech-trance acts), head honcho of Fiction Audio (newly founded Melbourne based tech-trance record label) and one of the most in demand producers in the country.

If you have been partying within the last 4 years, then you must have heard at least one of Steve’s original productions, bootlegs or rmx’s of some of the world’s heavy weights including- Moby, Roger Sanchez, Loletta Holleway, Dj Jean under the Steve Black name and Metalica, Marilyn Manson and East 17 under his live act !Warning!

Production wise, several years ago Steve was commissioned by a house label to do a “rave” mix of Soulchip – Lets Rock that was about to be released. Successfully scaring their panties off, the Steve Black Terror rmx was officially canned! But now it has come full circle again with Mixology Digital Records, another house track that has been put through the Steve Black trance cycle on his studio washing machine! Keep your ears peeled for 3 fazed – We Are One (Steve Black’s Fiction Rmx) and his debut ep Steve Black - Rising Sun ep (MDR record label)!

Patrik Carrera

patrikcarera.jpg

Patrik Carrera is a young talented DJ/Producer who has already clearly earned his place in the trance scene and has defiantly set the stage of things to come.
Residing in Sydney Australia, at the age of 23 Patrik is constantly developing his talent. A young man with many talents, Patrik is a well-respected member of the Australian Dance Music Community.

As a DJ he is no doubt always applauded for the style in which he shapes his sets; with show stopping technical skill applied to using a combination of intelligent track selection, tight mixing and a never ending assault of samples, on the fly remixes and sheer wizardry behind the decks.

Patrik is in high demand, actively playing shows every weekend for bookings across Australia and recently Seoul, Korea - headlining the trance institution "club o-two" at their anniversary party in September 2006. A night which proved that Patrik is fast becoming Australia's strongest trance export at such an early stage of his career. He has featured as a main DJ since 2004 at major clubs and events, most recently playing to a massive crowd of over 5,000 screaming fans alongside Fred baker at the Transmission event held in Sydney.

His career has seen him support International trance heavyweights such as Fred Baker (BEL), Dumonde (GER), Yoji Biomehanika (JAP), 4 Strings (NETH), Alphazone (GER), D10 (UK), Johan Gielen (NETH), Green Court (GER), Billy Bunter (UK), Mark Sherry (UK), Dark By Design (UK), Paul Van Dyk (GER), Kamui (GER), Uberdruck (GER), Peewee Ferris (AUS), Jumping Jack (AUS), Nik Fish (AUS), Bexta (AUS), Neal Crawford (AUS), Archie (AUS), Yoshi (AUS) - a list that constantly grows. Applying his creativity and skills in the studio, Patrick produces trance music filled with warm percussive elements and melodic sounds, fused with twisted electro and tech influence - a truly cutting edge sound which quickly spreads through trance club dance floors thanks to the many International and Austral-asian DJs that have chosen to play his productions

Chris Rodgers
Chris Rodgers is a 23 year old progressive house DJ from Perth, Western Australia. Although still a fresh face on the scene, his journey into electronic music first began in the late 90’s, when he found himself captured by the sounds of artists and DJ’s such as Chicane, Paul Oakenfold, and Sasha.

Chris's sets are difficult to pigeon hole into a single genre. His unique progressive house based sound is inspired by a diverse range of styles, blending elements of deep, melodic, and tech into his sets."

DreamensioN

dreamension.jpg

DreamensioN starting mixing back in 1999 and originally just did it for personal fun. As his skill grew, he ended up mixing a CD that was distributed just to close friends. He never thought of doing it seriously until a mix titled "Bedroom Sessions 3" was released on the internet. The extremely positive feedback and demand for the mix inspired him to keep going and to further develop his skill.

DreamensioN's mixes remain a hit on promo internet downloads, and in 2006 he teamed up with an online internet radio station Afterhours.FM for a monthly residency called "Universal Language".

His style is a unique blend of progressive house and trance, both new and old. His philosophy is that classics never die, and even the oldest of tracks (if chosen wisely) can sound as good today in a trance set, as they did 10yrs ago.

Ranked #2 in Brisbane on TheDJList for the 2nd year running, these uplifting and melodic mixes are sure to be played and listened to for many years to come. DreamensioN's philosophy of classic tracks blended with the latest trance hits are creating timeless mixes that won't date very quickly.

Conor Arkins
Growing up in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Conor Arkins was inspired from an early childhood by classic Ibiza tunes from artists such as ATB, Paul Oakenfold, Tiesto and Armin Van Buuren. In 2003 he made the move to Perth, Western Australia and settled down with the goal to transform the country into a trance nation (whilst having just completed a double degree in accounting and finance!!).

"Watch out for this guy, one of the rising stars of internet radio that is destined for bigger things”Matt Darey

“Knowing Conor now for more than a year and he steadily proves his ability to play the right tracks at the right time. The sets have a great flow and just the best in trance and progressive. Great guy.”Ronski Speed

“Conor has continuously been bringing music from the studios of the producers into the ears of fans, and for the right reasons. The style range has become an invaluable medium for many up-and-coming and seasoned artists to showcase their productions in a well balanced and mixed environment.”Sean Tyas

Brett James
Brett James has been collecting and spinning Trance records since 2000, and has been making waves ever since.

Voted in, as one of South Australia’s Top 10 DJ's for 2006 in the Technics “In The Mix” DJ Poll and currently stands as South Australia’s number 1 DJ on the International "DJ List.com", he has certainly made his stamp on the local dance music scene.

Much of the success was attributed through his creation of Adelaide’s most successful Trance Radio show known as “Global Trance”. First going to air in July of 2005 on local dance music radio station Fresh FM 92.7, Global Trance has since helped put Adelaide dance music on the world map, through the successful syndication of the show to stations all over the world.

Global Trance now airs every single week in Brisbane, Arizona, Florida, Bucharest and on numerous internet stations online, to a potential audience of over 3 million people, and it’s host Brett James, now considered as one of the most passionate and popular Trance DJ’s the Adelaide scene has to offer.

Working with and interviewing artists such as Matt Darey, 4 Strings, Kyau & Albert, Paul Oakenfold, Markus Schulz, Ken Spector, Robert Nickson, BT and much more.

Mike Nichol
Hailing from Australia’s cultural capital Melbourne, Mike Nichol is destined for big things in the worldwide EDM circuit. Having had recent signings to Australian’s premier trance label ‘Tribe Underground’ and new label Infrasonic Recordings UK, Mike’s productions have shot into international limelight, gaining recognition with 3x support from Armin van Buuren on his ‘A State Of Trance’ Radio show, Ronski Speed, John O’Callaghan, John Askew, Bryan Kearney and many more; proving himself as one of Australia’s premier dance music exports.

Mike’s latest release ‘Paradigm’ is out now with remix support from Robert Nickson & Thomas Datt. His forthcoming release, ‘Durado/Morning Kiss’ is set for release in June.

Internationally, on his many excursions to neighboring New Zealand he has played to capacity crowds alongside DJ’s Ronski Speed, Galen Behr & Johan Gielen. Locally in Melbourne he has shared billings with Martin Roth, Andy Moor, John ‘00’ Fleming, Dave Lea & Gareth Emery on parties such as Gatecrasher & Interview. In September he will make his UK debut at Infrasonic Night along side Aly & Fila and Menno De Jong.

Mike Nichol consistently astounds crowds with his unique and energetic technical ability, his impeccable track selection and ear for high quality electronic music; developing a strong reputation where ever he performs.

DJ Cafer
Dj Cafer is a young upcoming talent from the heart of Melbourne.

At 20 years old and a graduate of ASMT and a performance at Bass Australia he is ready to bring his unique style of mixing and collaboration of tunes to share with trance lovers world wide.

His inspiration comes from artists such as Sean Tyas, Giuseppe Ottaviani, Super 8 & Tab, Stoneface and Terminal, O'callaghan and Gielen just to name a few. He also enjoys the harder style of trance and dance music and loves to keep an open mind being inspired by harder dance artists aswell.

DJ Matt Cal

mattcal.jpg

Well, if you were to open the english dictionary and look up the word Passionate, it would have a picture of Matthew (DJ Matt Cal) hands in the air with lasers in background.

The passion this guy has for trance goes beyond a hobby. Some of the toughest days in his life have been lifted by the unique euphoric sound of trance, which he describes as “heavenly”.

"Some of the most memorable nights in my life have been spent on the dance floor.”

Having been involved in promotions for Melbourne`s most successful club Night and trance promotion he decided he wanted to take it to the next level & become the person that plays the music.

Some of Matthews inspirations come of the music of Sean Tyas, John O`Callaghan, Armin Van Buuren, Signum, Pulser, Ronski Speed, and Giuseppe Ottaviani.

His track selection has been described as “rocking”. Never afraid to mix things up and introduce a euphoric uplifting synth in a Tech Trance set, or completely change tempo and go from a euphoric synth to hard tech.

He has been mixing for just gone two years and has racked up some 600 odd records in that time. Passionate without doubt. When asked about his dj`ing dreams, Matthew's response is simple yet eloquent “If this train gets on rail, don’t ever consider buying a ticket because there aint no way this train is gonna slow down!". He is also a devout Christian and believes everything he does is a reflection on his Relationship with God.

Jules Plees
For Jules Plees it all started in the mid 1990’s. As a young child developing his persona, Jules was gradually introduced into dance music after witnessing video clips from renowned artists like Utah Saints, The Shaman and Quench.

By the young age of 10 Jules had become hooked on dance music, he knew it was his calling and over the ensuing years he attended regular underage dance parties to satisfy his craving. As time past Jules Plees fascination with Electronic Dance Music grew until in late 2001, after witnessing Christopher Lawrence and Carl Cox in action, he decided to buy his first pair of turntables. It was an important stage of Jules’ life as his vinyl collection began filling up with the Progressive Trance that Platypus were releasing at the time and slowly moved into a more Uplifting Trance style as he discovered songs from Nalin & Kane and Tilt, but also labels like Hooj Choons.

Then in 2003 the moment finally came when Jules was offered his first gig, opening with Adam Holden in Room 680 at “5AM,” one of Melbourne’s most prolific Trance nights. But this was only the beginning for young Jules as he has since supported some of the biggest local and international talent including: DJ Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, Marco V, John ‘00’ Flemming, Nick Warren and many more. For 18 months now, Jules has been persistently fine tuning his production skills partner in crime with Sasha Petrovic in his studio.

The last few months have turned serious for Jules as his tracks with Sasha under their, “Round Trip” project have been receiving airtime on local stations Kiss FM and Club Play. With a studio comprised of a Mac, Logic, a midi synth and 2 KRK’s, it wont be long before you can expect to be purchasing your first “Round Trip” song. Jules’ open ear for all genres of high-quality music has recently seen his style diversify even further with the addition of Psy to his sound. Whether he’s playing Tough House, Melodic Prog, Uplifting Trance, Techno or a more Psy influenced set, Jules Plees’ trademark charisma behind the decks and interaction with his crowd is a notable part of this DJs repertoire. Currently evolving from CDs to Ableton, there’s a reason Jules Plees is fast becoming one of Melbourne’s most well loved DJs, sought after by promoters of various club nights.

Our lovely kangaroos!

Mike Nichol \o/ Cant wait to hear what australia has for us.

Trust me...we _NEED_ the rain. Last week (here in South East Queensland), it rained for 2 days. That's the most rain we've seen in 2 YEARS!. The whole country is in a severe drought at the moment.

So hopefully AITM will bring some rain. :p :D

Cool video Mike - and a bangin' track too! Welcome to ah.fm! And thanks for taking part in AITM.

In other news - I've been busy this week with study and work etc. I will get the AITM write up done this weekend, and I'll be getting our friendly graphics artist Miric to start on the e-flyer.
