EOYC 2024

Hello family, were getting closer and closer to this years EOYC. I love this time of the year, gives me that warm feeling, unites all Electronic Dance Music fans. We all meet here and discuss, share and listen to the Countdown. This year im involving all possible help from AH staff to Djs and artists to make 2024 a memory to remember. Thanks to @danmark_ori @Eemzee @C!C@ @LucasChasingDreams and more for the help.

To be honest, i prefer less known stuff. The problem with bangers is, that even if it is really good, if everyone is playing it, it'll end up like Avicii's Levels. It's a good track, but it was everywhere and i got really sick of it.
It often happens, but an internal top always leaves a good memory, and I couldn't compare Avici with a whole year of trance music, broadcast on the EOYC :clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::dance3::dance3::dance3:

I'm just saying that there is a ton of awesome tracks that no one knows, just waiting to be discovered. I'm not saying that the big names don't produce good music, but why should i include tracks in my set that i know someone else will play anyway? :) I mean, it happens, but as an unknown producer myself, i know how hard it is to get your music out there, so if i discover something great by an unknown producer from the middle of nowhere, i'm going to play it.

That is a criterion that almost all of us take, but when I say that at the end of EOYC 2024, after having heard all the artists who participated, I always make a selection of the trakcs that were most used on the different days, whether they are known or not, I always highlight them, not only a famous name, but because many of my colleagues liked it and added it to their setlist... :good: :good:

I preffer less known bangers. There're plenty of 'em theese days. I like to dig Soundcloud reources too, there're tons of good stuff and it's completly free for the most part. You just to have look for 'em, like in good old days before Spotify and streaming. Of course, there are artists and labels that I like to keep an eye on, but I believe that to create a perfect mix of perfectly selected songs, you need to do a lot of research and prepare a lot too. Events like EOYC are a great opportunity to create a set that tells a story to the listeners. I hope I succeeded :megacrazy:

I agree with the last part of the post, starting with the perfect mix. I think it doesn't matter if it's a popular track or an unknown artist. The main thing is that it should fit in the mix and be in its place.
Otherwise you can take completely different tracks and just mix them together. But it won't be the same...

I think it's a pretty big difference between a set that's meant for radio and one that's played live for the people on a dance floor. When you're recording a set for radio, there's much bigger emphasis on the story you're trying to tell, but when playing live for real people, you can read the room for what the audience wants. Set for a radio is like a presentation, showcasing a story and amazing pieces, set for live people is like a conversation, playing good stuff that makes people dance.
For example, there's an old track Dragor - Dreams. It has 4 minute breakdown and it's an amazing piece that i love, but i wouldn't dare play this live, because in the 4 minutes of downtempo piano and synth, the people would leave the floor. (I actually did that once, years ago.)

Edit: I don't want to sound condescending, truly. It's just my opinion. Whenever i was playing live, i always felt a little constrained to keep the dance vibe going. When i'm making sets for listening, i feel way more freedom to explore even the tracks that you wouldn't dance to, but just close your eyes and fly over forests, mountains or even in space to a different planet.
