Very good question. I always assumed a vocalist was required.

I must learn the answer. Of course, after that much manipulation vocalists are not credited, if there was one, although it would be interesting to know. But even if there was one at some point, I think those sounds are downloaded & are in software, so a producer could have no contact with a vocalist.
