I could not find better place to put it,sorry ,just taking notes from Orkidea 15thfed2012
01. Airwave: Chiricahua
The belgian trance legend is definitely back and in fine form. Laurent seems to have found a new inspiration, vibe and energy for his productions and I think 2012 will be agreat year for him. His breakz remix for Mistique couple years ago was amaaaazing and this new track continues on the same vibe. I used to start my 6h sets at Unity with some breakbeat stuff so I've always been into this kind of atmospheric breakz trance. It's great to see that it's coming back again - and not least because certain Paul Oakenfold has been supporting this stuff big time.
02. John 00 Fleming: The Astrophysical Nebula
Continuing on the breakz trance tip. Now with John 00 Fleming who seems to share Airwave's desire to shake things up and drive the music to new territories. Here the J00F label boss collaborates with teh very same Mr Airwave and produces a stunningly beautiful and atmospheric breakbeat trance track which is IMHO one of his finest works.
03. Colombo: Summit
One more breakz tune before going into straight up 4/4 mode. This is one of last year's breakbeat favorites. The strings remind me of Hybrid's Finished Symphony and in a good way. Balancing the beauty of strings is the in-your-face drum section which has lots of punch and oomph. Definitely one that would work well on the dancefloor too.
04. Henry Saiz, Marc Marzenit: Radiance (King Unique Remix)
I've been waiting for this to come out since Dave Seaman's latest Renaissance Masters was released. It's one of King Unique's best remixes so far and a fine example of how you can do epic and melodic progressive house with a very current sound of 2012. Amazing track and definitely a proper journey one. This has been playing in my headphones while travelling snow white Finland up and down during the 20 album release tour and it's a great soundtrack for any travelling.
05. Zoo Brazil feat. Rasmus Kellerman: There Is Hope (Re-Blended)
I don't play that much voval tracks but I do think that ideally every great DJ set contains one or two vocal tracks - if the vocals are top notch in terms of both lyrics and the vocal performance delivery. And this one definitely delivers both. This is an old track which was recently re-released with a new "re-blended" version of the original which is featured here. One of my favorite vocal prog trance tracks of recent years.
06. Shiloh: Primavera (Luke Chable's Return Of The 3AM Drop Remix)
Now the mix picks up the energy levels a bit. Here is a co-production of my two fave prog producers Shiloh and Luke Chable. When many of the prog DJs and producers have moved to very deep sound and vibe I think these two have sticked nicely with a proper big room prog sound - yet maintaining the quality and also updating their sound all the time release by release. Their discography is all about evolution and not revolution. This is also one of those tracks which suits many different kind of sets and parties from Renaissancesque prog nights to Armada main room action. Quality!
07. Tilt & Paul van Dyk: Rendezvous (Orkidea Remix)
And now moving firmly to the trancier end of my sonic spectrum. I was thrilled when John from Lost Language asked me to remix Tilt & Paul van Dyk's classic 'Rendezvous'. The original was a huge classic during the early days of our Club Unity back in 1997-1998 so this was a special one for me to remix. It's been great to see this one getting lots of plays from the likes of Oakenfold (featured on his latest Four Seasons mix CD) and Andy Moor (featured in the latest Moor Music podcast). Personally I think it balances nicely between the old school underground sound and the current pure trance vibe that Solarstone, J00F, Oakey etc are supporting.
08. Federation: Innocent Desire (Dub Mix)
If Laurent Airwave has found a new inspiration and a fresh sound then another fine example is Rich Solarstone who is behind the Federation alter ego. His "pure trance" sound has been rocking my world big time and it's been fantastic to see the Solarstone remix of my 'Unity' sticking around in Beatport Trance Top 40 for two month already. I wasn't so keen on the vocal on Innocent Desire but the dub version rocks and reminds me of the old school Solarstone classics from the 90s.
09. Magnus: Soul Vector
The american Magnus starts to be one of my favorite producers around and 'Soul Vector' continues his string of strong psy-influenced releases nicely. And great to see him getting 100% support from teh likes of Oakey and J00F. Is he the next breakthrough superstar ala Protoculture coming from the psy sound and breaking through to the more traditional trance?
