but it didn't work. it seems that i cant find the icons i'm looking for. just checked this: "In this case, click on Customize button in the Icons section at the end of Hide inactive icons option." and they are not on the list.

damn vista!! now my volume icon is gone as well!!! :|

First try this:
-Open Task Manager (usually Ctrl-Alt-Del does this, not sure about Vista)
-Processes tab
-Find explorer.exe. Click on it to select it, then click End Process.
-After you have confirmed you want to kill the process, then still in Task Manager, click the File menu -> New Task, and type explorer.exe and click OK.
-See if your tray icons are back. If not, check the page linked below and see if that helps.
