AfterhoursRadio Beta released on FileForum

Hey there!

I was wondering if any of you could go and give the latest version of the player a review on FileForum, and a vote of course ;)

It seems that someone has decided to give it a bad review and say that it is pointless. If that is the case, please someone show me 1 application that will let you play AH.fm and see what is currently playing as well as the next and last 5 tracks, because as far as I know, there is nothing out there that does this.

Also this uses allot less resources than some media players.

You would make me a really happy bloke anyway ;)

i still get an exception :(

On Windows Server? That's because it's not designed to work on Windows Server, it's meant as a desktop product. The required operating system is XP/Vista. I uploaded another build today, but it won't get it working on Windows Server unfortunately.

I'm testing it in Win Server 2k03 and can replicate the issue so that's a good start :)

Okay, I found the cause of the problem in my case. Are you running a virtual server through Virtual PC or some other virtualising software?

The copy I am testing it in at the moment has the audio hardware disabled by default, you can see if this is the case by opening the control panel and the "Sound And Audio Devices Properties" aplette. If the device volume slider is disabled then no sound will work on the system.

So with that said, does the system make any sound at all?

If you could check this out for me that would be great :)

no its a real win2k3 server machine, not some virtual pc... i'm just using it thru an rdp connection. just tried it, when i start it on the console, it seems to work... no exception, it also shows the currently playing title correctly and all. (no sound though, as no speakers are connected :P)

so i guess it's not really an issue, the exception isnt pretty though :)

Okay, I'm confused now, you said that it seems to work "no exception", but the exception isn't pretty, so do you get an exception when it starts or do you not? If the player is working when you press the play button, you will see the Visual Display start to move (under the playlist), if nothing appears there it is not playing. The track list update is separate of the audio driver control so should always display fine.

I believe it may be a driver issue, if you could check that the systems audio driver is functional by checking the control panel "Sounds and Audio Devices" control panel aplette and running the "Test hardware..." option in the Voice tab; that would help me more than anything else.

Cheers again!

ok sorry for the confusion, let me clarify :)

when i launch the app at the console (that is, me sitting at the machine's monitor, keyboard and mouse), i get no exception, everything works great. i hear no sound, but that's probably just because there are no speakers :)

when i run the app via rdp, i do get the exception as before. the app isn't supposed to work via rdp (of course, there's no sound devices available to use i suppose), but i figure the app shouldn't just throw an exception in that case, but rather show some user readable error or something.

hope that clarifies :)

good job on the app!

Hey DFX!

Okay I understand now. I've didn't actually mean the app wasn't supposed to run by RDP, I am just concerned about non Microsoft Virtual Machines at the moment, although I have asked if you were using an RDP it was just out of curiosity as I use Windows, and your screenshot was of another OS with Windows (In a Window). I develop in a Microsoft VPC running XP Pro, it's quite a solid development environment.

Out of curiosity, what happens if you connect to the system using Microsoft RDP? As you know, the RDP connection shouldn't effect the hardware so unless you are running a different version for each test, I'm not quite sure what could be the cause. The latest, most stable version is on FileFarm at current, they even got the screenshot on there now :)

The only different thing you are using AFAIK, is a non Microsoft RDP client, although I am not sure why that would cause an issue.

nifty little program that, really great work, im going over to vista soon so will test it out on there soon. no problems at all on xp :)

Hey nice one Magik! :)

I promise the new skin feature I'm working on will make it allot more useful, that's if it works how I imagine it working anyway

Cheers for your feedback ;)

Thanks downloading.

Edit: How do you hide the player from the taskbar?

Nice one dude, any feedback would be fantastic.

It doesn't hide from the taskbar at current, but I can get it to do that no probs. I'm actually working on it at the moment so I'll add to to my todo list :)

I thought I'd share a screenshot of one of the skins I'm working on.

<broken image>

The middle bit spins around when it plays, although it's got a bit of a wobble at the moment. The only other bit I have left to skin is the volume control as it looks a bit pants at the moment.

Much better! Not much left now before the new skin engine is finished :super:

Very nice work, I think this is such a cool solution to one click listen to the station, but how come it doesn' show up in my task bar?
