the story about the chichibu distillery is quite fascinating , most of the whiskeys that were left were extremely well preserved and when the son (if i remember correctly) bought 'the leftovers' he was able to produce a lot of award winning whiskeys. that distillery was closed for a while before it was re-opened (but i could be wrong , it was quite the long time ago this story was told to me :ee:

I'll have to look into that. Are their recent offerings any good?

their best whiskeys were in that re opened distillery , going by the young ones i tasted from them i would say there are some good ones, but will not come near the famous the first
